big tits save lives!!

OK, I preface this by saying I’m not a huge Wonder Woman fan. I’m a chick and I like comics and superheros and such, but I’m more of a Flash fangirl. (Wally. Barry’s nice enough, but Wally’s my boy.) So I’m not too familiar with the Wonder Woman oeuvre outside of the Justice League.

But speaking as an observer and a chick who likes kapows… WTF are you people doing to Wonder Woman?

First you redesign her so she looks like she fell out of the 90s (seriously, that jacket? all I can think of is Jubilee from the 90s X-men). There’s no POW, it’s just oh a New York chick from a couple decades ago. Cool. Wait she’s a superhero?

But then… this show. Oh man this show.

Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I don’t think we need to have a female version of Tony Stark. We already have a Tony Stark. I understand wanting to make her a strong role-model but, uh, news flash: Women can be strong and powerful and kick ass without having a powerbitch-stereotypical job. And, frankly, the whole powerbitch thing gets old pretty quickly. There needs to be more to a woman, to any character, than that. But wait! There is. She has ISSUES. She’s in love. She likes ice cream. She has body image issues. That’s enough to make a well-rounded character, right?

Well.

No. It gives you enough stuff to put a character onscreen, but giving a woman body-image issues and a taste for ice cream just seems like a clumsy attempt to offset the high-powered CEO/superheroine thing. To normalize her—”look! Wonder Woman is just like the rest of us!”

Hmm not really. She is a SUPER HERO. She is allowed to be super. If you want to give her issues, fine, but the body image thing just seems lazy.

And finally.

BIG TITS SAVE LIVES? Really? Maybe if you’re Powergirl. And… why does WW appear to be crying? She’s crying because of her body image issues? At a board meeting? Are you sure you’re making a show about Wonder Woman? I tend to think of WW as the archetypal warrior woman, and this doesn’t strike me as something they do. Crying, I mean. About boobs.

(Aside: If you want a superheroine who cries about her body issues, I give you Empowered. No really, it’s much awesomer than I just made it sound.)

Now maybe I’m not the target audience. (…somehow? I feel like I am, though.) Maybe this is aimed at the people who like Smallville or Sex and the City. But I’m really just not clear on what you’re doing with the character. Obviously, we’re trying for something BIG and EXCITING but I have so little interest in what’s going on. The new look is much more boring than the old one, and this show is like… why is this WW? This sounds like an entirely new character. Couldn’t you just MAKE a female Tony Stark-type woman, if that’s what you want? Why do you have to take a character who has a rich (and, I suppose, oft-changed) history and just remake her into a powerbitch with two secret identities? Two?

I mean, I’ll give the show a shot, I guess. It’s a bit early to lay down final judgment; they’ve barely even casted the thing. But so far, the show does not sound promising and just continues to make Wonder Woman a character in whom I’m not really interested. And I really really do want to be interested.

  2. Taxes here are paid in white wine and strawberries.

But I can’t take credit for the big tits line, it’s part of the new Wonder Woman show. Unfortunately.

Perhaps, but I wouldn’t have known about the life saving properties of big tits if it weren’t for Gracetopia. I like the tax laws – you are welcome to both, because I don’t care for either.

let's talk!
